My Beautiful Little Cousin ♥

Why, hello everyone! :D I hope you all are having a great week! Sorry if we don't manage to post much this week - Violet is busy with exams, and I'm preparing for our first rehearsal of the musical this Saturday!!! Can't believe it's the first rehearsal already!! :P But anyway, on with what I actually came here to write about...

So I have just come to the conclusion that I have the cutest little cousins in the world! I'm blessed to have part of my Mum's side of the family living right here in the city I live in. The other half of the family live across the ocean, in Tasmania, but they come to visit quite a lot, so that is still really good. Both of my cousins on Mum's side (yes, I have only two on her side) are grown up, and married, but they both have children, gorgeous little girls. And I am really blessed to be able to babysit for one of them!!

Here are some of the pictures I took with my cousin's 2 year old daughter (I just tend to call her my little cousin, it is easier that way) the other day. She was in a really playful mood the day I was looking after her, and wanted to take lots of photos, and they were so cute, I decided I had to share some them :D.
Trying to catch the camera! That is one of her all time favourite games to play with me. She is sooo cute!!! I wish I had a better photo of her though - she has the most stunning blue eyes. You can kinda see them here, but they are even more amazing in real life!! :D I'm rather jealous to be honest haha ;)
Playing with my bracelet!
This one is my absolute favourite!! Isn't it gorgeous?! We went for a walk, and were looking at the flowers blooming all around. She was entranced by all the pretty colours, and would tell me ever single like she saw a flower, and we'd have to pick one. This photo was her offering her little bouquet of daisies we picked to me. So cute! She's just learning to talk, so words like "daisy" and "white" and "red" and "spider" are repeated over and over. She can't quite say my name (my actual name, she can say Daisy just fine haha), she says a Y instead of the first letter. That really brings back memories for me, as that was what my little brother used to call me when we were really little! :D

I love taking walks with my darling little cousin, because everything about the world is so new and amazing for her. It reminds me to appreciate things.

An interesting blog article

After reading this post on Amanda's blog, I have come to realise something that I have felt to be true of myself for some time, but have never been able to put it into words as well as she does. While I don’t agree with everything she has written in this post, she has convinced me of one thing – I too am a Christian “snob”. Sometimes I think having a weak conscience can be both the greatest help in my Christian walk as well as the greatest hindrance! Please pray for me, that the Lord would continue to work on my heart in this area and would help me to change from a Christian criticising others from within the safety of my own comfort zone, to one more concerned with sharing the good news with others. From a Christian with a self-righteous air, to one who is daily humbled by what Christ has done.

May the Lord bless you too as you seek to serve Him.

If Today Was Your Last Day...

The other day, I really got thinking about life, and how nothing at all is guaranteed to us, except that things will change. And we can have no idea how long we've got. God alone knows how long He has planned for us to be on this earth. And as I was thinking that I realised, God could have planned for my life to end tomorrow, or next week, or in a month's time, or in a year, or 5 years, or much much longer. I won't know. But yeah, as I said, it could be tomorrow. It could be any day.

So.... I then I was thinking, well, if I don't know how long I've got, I want to be able to spend every moment I have doing something worthwhile. I want to try and spent every moment of my life serving and glorifying God!!

Every moment, every day of our lives matters. We can make them count. We can spend every moment of our lives serving God, doing things that matter. We can spend each moment of our lives living as if we were dying.

If I was dying, I would want to spend as much time as I possibly could with my family and friends, I would want to finish up making my life's dreams come true, and live to glorify God. I would want to share the Gospel with as many people as I could and finish all my unfinished projects, I would want to learn as much as I possibly could about the world, and try to be the very best person I could. After I thought about all of that, I decided that I am going to try and spend  every day that God blesses me with living as if I am dying. I'm going to try and make the most of every single day I have.

What would you do if today was your last day to be on this earth? Isn't it amazing how that simple statement makes what is really important come to light!

God bless you all,

'The Violet' by Jane Taylor

I just love this poem so much! :)

The Violet
 by Jane Taylor

Down in a green and shady bed,
   A modest violet grew,
Its stalk was bent, it hung its head,
As if to hide from view.

And yet it was a lovely flower,
   Its colours bright and fair;
It might have graced a rosy bower,
   Instead of hiding there.

Yet there it was content to bloom,
   In modest tints arrayed;
And there diffused its sweet perfume,
   Within the silent shade.

Then let me to the valley go,
   This pretty flower to see;
That I may also learn to grow
   In sweet humility.

This poem sums up the kind of person I want to be: someone who with each day grows closer and closer to the Lord, and in doing so, becomes more and more humbled. I really want to be someone who will be content in each and every situation; someone whose primary desire is not to see myself glorified, but Christ glorified through me. As one of my favourite Bible verses, John 3:30 says, "He must increase, but I must decrease." And what a daily struggle that is! So often, my life does not reflect this, and I seek only to serve and fulfill my own selfish desires. I, as with everybody else, needs to learn from the humble, sweet violet!

I have some exciting news for you all as well! We will soon  be welcoming onto this blog another lovely "flower"! She is a dear friend of mine who helps me greatly in my walk with Christ. I am really excited about the neat input she will be able to have on this blog!

Yes, the photographs are quite random and unrelated to this post. I took in Daisy's advice (if you haven't already, read  this post) and had a lovely time wandering around the garden taking photos as I went, soaking in the last of the sun for the day. It is well worth doing!

And to finish up, I couldn't resist sharing with you all a YouTube clip of one of mine and Daisy's favourite singers (a post later on that methinks!). Her name is Hayley Westenra, and she was born and lived in our home country of New Zealand! Enjoy listening and look out for a post on her later on! :)

Trails of Angels

I really, really like this song! It is so beautiful!! I can see why they call Chinese music "peace music". And I love the picture too. :)

And also, whilst I am posting, here are a few quick quotes for you :D

"God gave you the gift of 86,000 seconds today. Have you used one of them to say "Thank You"?"

"When it feels like you are drowning in life - don't worry - your Lifeguard walks on water!"

"Today, I am happy because I have no reason not to be!" ♥

For the Love of Lists..

I love lists. They are what help me to keep my life on track. Without my lists, I know I'd forget to do half of the things I need to. Also, I find that lists even motivate me - as I tick off jobs, I become more driven to finish the list, and to move faster between jobs! I just love lists!

And this is one of my favourite  lists ever ;P

No, this is not the normal kinda list I use to get everything done, but I've been meaning to share that for ages :D
Love, Daisy

As exams rapidly approach, I find myself having to review yet again my study techniques. So I just thought I’d let you all know that I’ve found a useful website, Quizlet, where you can create your own flashcards and test yourself through a few games and tests. Quizlet can be found at: http://quizlet.com/. Check it out, particularly if you (like me), are nearing the exam season!

(And yes, for those who are interested, my username on Quizlet is VioletNZ. Feel free to have a look at some of the flashcards I’ve made!)

Also, here is a reminder as exams approach, or for anyone else who is struggling with anxiety! I always struggle to bring everything, including exams, to the Lord in prayer – but it is something we MUST do! God wants us to do our best in exams as in everything, I am sure, but we are reminded this verse that anxiety is not a heart attitude that God wants us to have (something I fail in!) He wants our trust to ultimately be in Him and His provision rather than simply in our own strength. Help me to remember this verse during this time, Lord! Yet, help me not to become lazy either that I may be doing my very best for You!

On a different note, here is a lovely picture I found! I wish this is what studying for exams looked like; serene, peaceful and organised, but in reality (at least in my case!) it is chaos: paper flying everywhere, coffee at hand, frantic scribbling….I do love this picture, though. I wish one could wear a lovely flowing dress like this while doing revision (sigh!) but I guess it is slightly impractical, especially as one is likely to end up with inky fingers! I wonder how she managed not to get anything on that lovely dress, especially as it appears she is painting something?

That is all I have time for, as more exam revision awaits . . . ! Have a lovely day! :D

This morning, I woke up to find that none of the taps in the house were working - no water was coming out at all. There was absolutely no water.

I love this :D
I wasn't too fussed by it, to be perfectly honest, but my mum was - she couldn't have her morning coffee!! Haha ;) So she rang the water services. Apparently, there was a burst pipe down our road, but they were working to fix it.  Mum put the phone down, satisfied. Coming from South Africa, where services of that kind often take hours or days to even be looked into, she is always pleased by New Zealand's promptness.

As we were sitting down to breakfast, we were talking about it all. We figured, you know, we have no water this morning, but that won't be for long, and we almost never have the water turned off. My mum's cousin, who still lives in South Africa, lives in an area where she has to go through having the water off at least a few times a week, often for hours at a time, sometimes even multiple times a day! And she never knows exactly when this is going to happen, so she has to constantly keep a bucketful of water handy. They often are without power too, as the government tries to save money. Thinking about that made us realize how blessed we are to live where we live, and to always have water, and electricity. A few little hours once or twice a year are nothing at all to complain about! :)
Then I started thinking about those people in third world countries who NEVER have power, never have running water, no homes even, no source of clean water - just a nearby river. Wow. Sure makes me grateful for what I have.

One day, I dream of making a difference over in countries like that, but right now, I'm just feeling grateful for all the blessing I have been given - blessing I am totally undeserving of, and have only been given, thanks to the incredible grace and love of my God and Savior - all those blessings I normally take for granted - food, clothes, a home, heating, electricity, education...

And water!!

The Auditions!!

Well, I have a few minutes here, so I'm going to do a quick post, to keep you all up to date on the production!! I'm sorry I've been so busy recently, and have had hardly any time to post - I am trying to find time though!! :) Working on planning, scripting, choreographing, casting, co-ordinating and organizing the play is taking precedence at the moment I'm afraid!
The Team: My mum - the musical director, my brother, me
(Daisy) - the director, my assistant, Violet - the secretary,
and our choreographer!! :)

But anyway...
We had an absolutely AMAZING audition day!! Both Violet and I were run right off our feet, but it was well worth it (well, I think so!). I woke up really early that morning, feeling really nervous. My main concern was that not many people would turn up, as we hadn't had all that big a response by email. As I was getting ready, however, I received 3 phone calls from people wanting to audition! I was pretty excited about that. It served very well to remind me not to worry, God is in control. If He wanted there to be lots of people at the auditions, there would be, and if He didn't, there wouldn't, and no amount of worrying would change that. Once I got over those initial nerves, I started to see that all of our hard work had paid off, we were very well prepared, and that it was going to be a really good day!
Violet at our "information desk"

We headed down to the church hall half an hour before the auditions were set to begin. People were using many of the rooms in the church we had hoped to be able to use when we arrived, but thankfully, they cleared out fast, and we were still able to get all set up.

Violet was running the information desk, which was where people went to receive the information and forms they needed, my mum was running the vocal auditions, my assistant was running the acting auditions and our choreographer, the dancing ones. My job was basically to go between all three, and keep things going the way they were meant to.

People started arriving early, and we were kept busy the whole time, from 1pm, almost straight through to 4pm, when we gave the results. But it was so much fun, and really exciting too, getting to see all the talent! Some we had seen from the show we put on last year (you can read about that at here: and there are pictures from the rehearsals and actual shows in the photo gallery), but there were also a lot of people we had never met before, which was really cool!! :) All in all, we saw more than 40 people at that first round of auditions (what was I worried about?!), and we were able to cast almost all the lead roles, and fill the choir and chorus roles. We are also having a second, smaller audition session on Friday afternoon, because quite a few people were not able to make it last Saturday and are still really keen!! :D Exciting!!!!

We ended the day exhausted, but looking forward to what is to come - I sure can't wait to start rehearsals!! :D
Violet and me, tired after a long, but exciting day of auditions :D
Sorry, I got more of the kitchen in the photo than us haha :p

I've Got That Joy

I'm so happy right now!!! Life is so good, and I'm just so blessed ♥
And its so great to know that even when things aren't going so well, I will always be able to have that joy!!

Its not that my life is perfect - it definitely isn't.
Its not that I am perfect - I most definitely, definitely am not!! :P
Its not that there aren't things about the past I wish I could change, things I wish I could do-over - there are more things I wish I could re-do than I can count!
Its not that there aren't thing I wish I could change about the world - I wish I could change so many things, its not even funny.
I will always have joy!!! And I have so much more than I deserve, and I am so grateful for all that I have.
The secret to my happiness.... well, this song by Newsboys says it all!
"You give me joy that's unspeakable,
And I like it, And I like it
Your love for me is irresistible
I can't fight it, I can't fight it
You carried the cross and took my shame
I believe it, I believe it
You shine Your light of amazing grace
I receive it, I receive it"

John 16:22 - "So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again, and you will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away."
