What Would You Say?

What would you say if someone were holding a gun in your face and asking you "Do you believe in God?", knowing that, if you said yes, they would shoot you? Would you say 'yes'? You might think it's a strange question that I'm asking, but it's been something that I've had on my mind for a while now. As Christians today, in our society, we aren't often called upon to make an obvious stand for Christ - a lot of us can be serving Him quietly, yet when an issue arises that we have to make a stand, do we? The Bible calls us to do this, but when it comes down to the moment, would we?

In the shootings at the Columbine Highschool in the States years ago, kids were being asked this question with a gun in their face, "Do you believe in God?" Many of them said yes, and were killed because of it. They took a stand for their Lord, knowing that it would cost them their earthly life.

Here's a song by Michael W. Smith which he made after the Columbine shootings, as a memorial for a particular young girl who had been struggling in her faith. Yet when asked this question, she said "yes".

Would you take a stand for Him too? Do you take a stand for Him even now? We should be standing up for Him now, in the seemingly small things, in the situations that aren't necessarily life or death situations, so that if and when something much more threatening does arise, we can say with a strong voice and without fear, "Yes, I do believe in God."

The Bible tells us that those who follow Jesus Christ will be persecuted, in one way or another. And God's Word also tells us that we will be blessed because of it. "Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on My (Jesus') account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.." (Matthew 5:10-12). Are we ready for it? We should be expecting it, if we live a life of openly following our Lord and Saviour, in everything that we do, as 'the light of the world' (Matthew 5:14), not hiding our light under a basket, but putting it on a stand for all the world to see. Or are you ashamed of your faith, wanting to keep it a secret so no one else knows about it? "For whoever is ashamed of Me and of My Words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels." (Mark 8:38)

Don't be ashamed of your Lord. Don't be ashamed to serve the One who made you, who died for you, who "goes to prepare a place for you", so that one day He will take you to be with Him in glory. Don't deny Him, like Peter did. Stand up for the Lord, be strong and courageous, shine your light for all the world to see, in the little things and in the big things. He is with you, and He will always be with you, even when you feel like you are all alone. This is your time. What will you say?

Here's an oldie but a goodie by Newsboys, 'I'm Not Ashamed'. It's quite repetitive but it's driving a good point home. Don't be ashamed.

"But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that He is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me."
 2 Timothy 1:12

Love from your sister in Christ,

Wow, Lily, what a challenging post which really makes me wonder how I would respond: with faith in Christ and what He has already accomplished and a certianty of knowing where I am going, or a fear of man? I really hope it would be the former!

Thank you so much for the reminder - I really needed to hear that and please pray that I would be willing to share the gospel with others, no matter how much I fear their reaction. Funny how we can be so scared of people's reaction when we share the gospel, even though we really don't actually get much outright persectution: certianly not usually on that scale.

And also, happy birthday! :D God bless you my friend!

From,
Violet
