Describe Him: Active

Describe Him: A-Z Challenge Series
Active ~ given to action, working, effective.

I know it's not a word I would usually use to describe God but "active" is what I have come to realize He is. It is so easy for us to form a view of a passive God who sits idly on a cloud, but this is far from true! He is actively involved in our lives, and it is us who are so slow to see it!

Here are just some examples of how God is active:
  • "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12, ESV) - God's Word, in the Bible is very active in bringing people to Him and convicting them of their need for salvation.
  • "...keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation.” (Exodus 34:7, ESV) - God is actively involved in bringing about His plan for salvation while also bringing about His judgement which will ultimately be fufilled when Christ returns again.
  • There are countlesss examples in the Bible of where God was actively involved - in fact the entire Bible is about how God is active, particularly in the lives of believers but also in the lives of unbelievers, bringing everything to His glory and working His plan of salvation. It's really amazing! One thing that I am doing and encourage you to do is read lots of Biblical accounts of men and women, some who believed and some who did not believe in God and you will quickly see how God works actively!
I also love studying history because it is also full of examples of God providentially working. After all, history is really HIS story (no pun intended of course)!
